Do I really need flood insurance if I live in a low-risk flood zone?

It’s recommended to purchase flood insurance even if you do live in a low to moderate-risk areas.  According to the “Flood Smart Government” website, historically almost 25% of all flood insurance claims come from areas that are low to moderate flood risks.

Won’t Federal Disaster assistance pay for my damages?

No.  Assuming the President does, in fact, declare a disaster, the Federal Disaster assistance is most often in the form of a low interest loan which will help you cover the flood damages.  This will not compensate you for your losses

What if I’m renting a property, can I still get Flood Insurance?

If the community you live in participates in the National Flood Insurance Program you may get flood insurance to cover the contents of your home or business.
